Behind Story: Writing Poetry Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Indonesia-Korea Relations
I couldn’t believe it when someone tagged me on Instagram, saying that I had won first place in a poetry writing contest organized by the Korean Cultural Center Indonesia. The competition celebrated the 50th anniversary of Indonesia-Korea relations and attracted many aspiring writers.
My poem, titled “세월이 지나면” (As Time Goes By), aims to capture the essence of the past, present, and future of the relationship between Indonesia and Korea. I tried to touch upon the shared struggles of both nations, their achievements, and the hope for an even deeper connection.
Even though I use Korean on a daily basis, I know that writing poetry is no walk in the park. Upon hearing about the 50-year milestone, I thought about Indonesia and Korea’s efforts in their pursuits of independence. Both nations have come a long way and achieved significant progress. My poem also draws inspiration from the ever-strengthening bond between the two nations.
Like the final lines of my poem, I hope for stronger and deeper relations between Indonesia and Korea:
“올해 수교 50주년 기념하는 우리는 세월이 지나면 더더욱 깊은 관계되리라.”
I also participated in a short interview about this new achievement of mine after the appreciation ceremony on April 15th at Korea 360 at Lotte Shopping Avenue, Jakarta. I felt honored to be a part of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Indonesia-Korea relations.
This experience has been truly memorable for me. Being able to contribute to such an important milestone celebrated by Indonesia and Korea through poetry has been both rewarding and fulfilling.
