Teaching Beginner Korean

Bahasa Korea Binar Candra

I taught Beginner Korean to Indonesians interested in the Korean language at the International Language Institute (LBI) of the Faculty of Humanities, University of Indonesia. The beginner Korean is divided into three levels: Beginner 1, Beginner 2, and Beginner 3. Students learn language skills such as listening, reading, speaking, and writing for 13 weeks.

Beginner students learn Korean subjects that can provide the base to build their proficiency. They also learn aspects of Korean culture, such as the Korean currency, transportation systems in Korea, the four seasons of Korea, and others. Beginner 1 students learn from Hangeul and working to top to essential vocabulary, grammar, and phrases. Meanwhile, Beginner 2 students focus on expanding their knowledge about the Korean language and the culture around it. On the other side, Beginner 3 students are expected to prepare themselves for the intermediate level through more practice.

My teaching approach is active learning for students. In every course, I create an environment where students can actively participate in the class through discussions, role-plays, problem-solving, and games.

I also have experience in teaching a deaf student in an inclusive classroom. I used more text, hand gestures, and mouthing to make sure the deaf student receive the instructions clearly and feel included.
