Teaching Intermediate Korean

I taught Intermediate Korean to Indonesians interested in the Korean language at the International Language Institute (LBI) of the Faculty of Humanities, University of Indonesia. The Intermediate Korean is divided into three levels: Intermediate 1, Intermediate 2, and Intermediate 3. Students learn language skills such as listening, reading, speaking, and writing for 13 weeks. I was in charge of the Intermediate 1 class.

Intermediate students learn subjects that enhance their Korean proficiency. The lessons are built around the forms of Korean culture and daily life in Korea, such as workplace, meeting and gathering, personality, and others.

My teaching approach is active learning with socially relevant materials. In every course, I provide materials such as short talks or part of a lecture in addition to the textbook materials to broaden the students’ knowledge. The class is fully conducted in Korean so that the students can practice and showcase their skills at the same time.
