[Korean → Indonesian] Audiovisual Translation for Youtube Videos

As an avid watcher of Youtube videos, providing subtitles on the platform is a type of translation that I have always wanted to do. Also, as a foodie myself, my interest in culinary, cooking, and eating pulled me to mukbang videos (and it has helped me contribute to the culinary category in Naver’s Open Dictionary).

During the COVID-19 global pandemic, I translated subtitles for mukbang videos, a rising content in the amid of quarantine measures all around the world. I was in charge of the Indonesian subtitles for FUME (푸메)‘s popular videos.

FUME’s videos are loved by a whopping three million subscribers internationally, including Indonesians. Her popular videos, including seafood dishes, fire noodles, and spicy fried chicken introduce cuisines loved by Koreans. I translated culinary terms such as ingredients, taste, and cooking methods. On top of that, I also applied the translation technique adaptation to translate jokes that FUME made on the videos.

Besides translating mukbang videos, I also have experience in pro-bono translation by subtitling K-pop fan Youtube videos. I translated several Angoo (안구정화 TV)‘s videos for Indonesian audiences. Having been familiar with K-pop since its first-generation, my knowledge of K-pop and fandom culture gave me an advantage in translating fan content.

I used Youtube Community Contribution Tools in completing the subtitles. I am also proficient in using other subtitling software such as Aegisub.
